I am off from work for the next four days, so I will be getting caught up with answering messages, making Project Queer updates, and doing various art projects, like:

Q:You just reblogged a chart titled "Phobia & Sexism," and on that chart "trans misandry" is listed. I reblogged from you and added commentary of my own, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on the idea of "trans misandry" as a legitimate category of oppression experienced by transmasculine people.

I definitely regret reblogging that chart without adding commentary. Thank you for bringing this to my attention and sharing your thoughts about the issue. After reading your comments, I can say that we definitely share the same opinions about ‘trans misandry’ being listed along with legitimate phobias and sexism. It is wrong for a number of reasons.

Firstly, trans misandry (let alone misandry itself) does not exist. FAAB trans* folks are not oppressed or discriminated against in the same ways or extent as MAAB trans* folks. The discrimination that we FAAB trans* folks face is due to transphobia and cissexism - not misandry.

Moreover, transmisogyny and transmisandry should not be lumped together like they are even comparable. They are not. Besides the fact that transmisandry is a myth, MAAB trans* folks (especially MAAB trans* folks of colour) experience higher rates of anti-trans* hate, violence (and suicide or murder) for simply for existing.

Oppression is rooted in privilege and power, and as a FAAB trans* person, I have a lot of privilege and power over MAAB trans* people. This should be acknowledged - not ignored. By comparing transmisogyny and transmisandry, this chart is not only misinforming folks, but aiding in the systematic oppression of trans* women.

US Army weapons engineer tied to white nationalist organizations

A young research engineer at the U.S. Army’s elite chemical and biological research laboratory in Maryland has close ties to two racist groups espousing white nationalist views, one of which has called for a homeland for white people.

John Stortstrom, a mechanical engineer who works for the Army at its Edgewood Chemical Biological Center (ECBC), was among 150 white nationalists, many of them young, who attended the American Renaissance conference held in early April in Tennessee. American Renaissance is a journal dedicated to race and intelligence, with a heavy focus on the “psychopathology” of black people. Its editor has written that black people are incapable of sustaining any kind of civilization.
